I chose this music video by past students as I felt it stood out the most in comparison to the other ones I couldve chosen.
Positives:
- The lip syncing to the video was done extremely well in my opinion, with the lips being in time with the lyrics in the song.
- They had a wide range of locations, which weren't busy and were very iconic. This made the video itself look more planned out as these locations would have had to be found specifically for this and would've taken a long time to find.
- The camera shots work especially well as the director of the video has placed the actors in the right places when in the different locations. This would've been time consuming but is very effective!
- By cutting on the beat, they made the video flow more rather than cutting in random places. This would distract the audience watching the video and they wouldn't really realise when the cuts took place because it would make it piece together so easily.
- Having a selection of outfits, especially unexpected ones was good as it kept me watching to see what comes next.
- The camera movement is what stood out to me the most- for example when the actor spoke the first verse, there was a close up to his face.. but none of the camera work was done using a tripod, rather handheld which gave the video more character and made it look better overall.
Negatives:
- The performance level wasn't very high: they lacked passion in many parts and weren't in time with the music either when playing the guitar.
- The high angle shot showing the girl didn't really tie in with the rest of the video- I felt that if they'd kept the girl anonymous and had the entire video on performance, it would've looked better.
- I really liked the transitions they used like the four square effect/ tiled effect BUT didn't like at all the other transitions like the slides/sweeps/wipes moving from one location to another whilst they were performing.
