How to analyse lyrics

In the second week of Dan’s lesson we were practising how to analyse lyrics and put our own views into them. The lyrics we had to analyse were from an old song called “ alight” by super-grass. We first watched the music video before we were given a copy of the lyrics to analyse.
“Alright” by super grass
In the eyes of Andrew Goodwin this would be seen as being a disjuncture as the lyrics from beginning to the end contradict the music video making it in my opinion pretty worthless. The way that I analysed these lyrics were by looking at each paragraph and whatever image came up in my mind I would classify it as an idea.

The lyrics
We are young, we run green,
Keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright,
We wake up, we go out, smoke a fag,
Put it out, see our friends,
See the sights, feel alright,                     In the first paragraph were it says “keep our teeth, nice and clean” I would show people (teenagers) smiling to show how clean their teeth is. “See our friends, see the sight” here I would show a bunch of teens meeting up and behaving like hooligans.

Are we like you?
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns,
We are strange in our worlds,
In the second paragraph “are we like you” i would get the camera looking directly in the eyes of the main artist so it looks like he is looking at the audience. Last sentence of paragraph two “we are strange in our worlds”  i would show a bunch of teens doing something unusual such as squirting ketchup in their mouths a swallowing it like if it’s a drink.

But we are young, we get by,
Can't go mad, ain't got time,
Sleep around, if we like,
But we're alright,
Got some cash, bought some wheels,
Took it out, 'cross the fields,
Lost control, hit a wall,
But we're alright,

Are we like you,
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns,
We are strange in our worlds,

But we are young, we run green,
Keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright,

Are we like you,
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns,
We are strange in our world,

But we are young, we run green,
Keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright.
In the last paragraphs “we are young, we are green” I would show allot of teenagers running down a hill, in fact rolling.

This genre is clearly indie rock as you see them performing but we don’t see instruments, we can only hear it. I would have shown long shots, close-ups during the bridge even in this we can show alot of props such as cigarettes, booze and more.
